Derralyn Rennix, DVM, aspires to a meaningful life that is full of genuine happiness. She is guided by her values of honesty, integrity, kindness, compassion, and resilience. As a Certified Teacher of The Mindful Life Program, she identifies most with teaching the cultivation of an open heart and the Four Immeasurables as antidotes to negative mind states.
As a veterinarian, Dr. Rennix works to alleviate suffering in animals and thereby enhance the well-being of people and society. Since her patients cannot speak, she must rely on all her senses to guide her to diagnoses. Dr. Rennix needs to have a clear, attentive mind to do that. Mindfulness allows her to be a better clinician by keeping her fully present and engaged, but without prejudgement.
Caregivers suffer from a high level of emotional stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue, which can lead to serious negative affects on health, career, and ability to care for others. Dr. Rennix is dedicated to using mindfulness to promote self-care and teaching others skills to deal with compassion fatigue so that they may remain resilient.
MLP’s focus on teaching practical, accessible and universal life skills that can be used to empower people to achieve a meaningful life for the greater good is a perfect fit for how she tries to mentor others. Her hope is that through her teaching of the MLP program, you may discover your own path.
Dr. Rennix teaches courses in Otisfield, Maine.
