Hosted by the Way of Compassion Dharma Center
Our co-founder, John Bruna, will be facilitating a retreat on the Four Immeasurable Attitudes – equanimity, loving-kindness, compassion, and empathetic joy. Teachings on each of these beneficial attitudes can be found in many spiritual traditions and cultures. While they have origins in Buddhist philosophy, the benefits of cultivating the four immeasurable attitudes are universal, not bound by any particular spiritual or religious belief. In our current times, we believe the world needs us to cultivate these qualities more than ever.
In addition to helping us cultivate a healthy and open heart, which nourishes our relationship with ourselves and others, the four immeasurables are also the antidotes to unhealthy attachments and aversions, hatred, ill will, jealousy, and envy—just as turning on a light dispels the darkness, these immeasurable attitudes dissipate destructive emotions and attitudes. Needless to say, one does not need to be a Buddhist to benefit from these precious teachings, they are universal to people of all faiths, traditions, and cultures. The four immeasurables, combined with meditation and mindfulness, help us all live with more resiliency, develop our inner resources, and have more peace and joy in our lives.
